Water Well Drilling Equipment - What's The Best Way To Drill A Water Well?

When it comes to water well drilling equipment, you have plenty of choices for how to get it done. Of course you can do it by hand - the do it yourself, or DIY route. You can also buy a new or used water well drilling rig. Or you can rent one for the weekend to drill down to the depth you want. Or you can hire a water well drilling company or contractor to do it for you.
Each method has its own pros and cons. Each one can has a different price and the costs of water well drilling can vary drastically from one method to another.

And then you have to figure out how deep you need to drill before you find a suitable source of drinking water. If you hire a water well drilling contractor, they are going to want to drill as deep as possible. They may quote you a lower price for a shallow well but may not find water at that level. After you have invested several thousand dollars getting them out to your home, you are not going to be able to walk away because the job is not done. So you will have to pay a few thousand more to get the contractor to keep drilling until they find water.

Even if you wanted to do it yourself and drill your own well, it is not going to be cheap. This is your family's drinking and bathing water and it should not be done as cheap as possible. You want to buy the right equipment to get the job done correctly the first time. The cost of drilling a water well down to 50 feet by hand is easily $1000+. Some of the drilling bits alone cost $200.

That does not include the cost of the well water pumps, well testing and treatment or a well water storage tank. The costs of doing it yourself by hand can add up quickly.

That does not mean hiring a water well drilling contractor will be much cheaper. You can look for quotes on water well drilling equipment and find portable hydraulic drilling rigs for sale starting at $5000 and it quickly goes up from there.

When you buy a portable drilling rig, you can drill your own water well and then start your own contracting services and offer your rig to your neighbors or famers and ranchers in the area for a nice fee. This can help you recoup your water well drilling equipment investment rather quickly.

Since every location is different there is no one size fits all method that will be better than another. Sometimes you will need the experts to advise you on the different soils you will trying to drill through. It also depends on how deep you have to go to reach suitable drinking water.

Hopefully that has helped you compare your options when it comes to drilling your own water well or hiring a drilling company to do it for you.

How to Rescue the Gulf - The Next Time

By Klaus H Hemsath
BP's leaking oil well will spill more than five million barrels into the Gulf of Mexico. A well designed collection dome could have stopped the leak within days. One week's spill could have been mopped up with two advanced oil skimmers, if each vessel had been capable of collecting more than five thousand barrels per day. Neither the oil industry nor the U.S. Coast Guard was prepared for dealing with a well failure in deep waters.

The Wood Work Bench - The Old But Effective Standard in Work Benches

By Greg Parsons
Today, there are many materials that can be used to build work benches-steel, aluminum, melamine, synthetic wood-but a wood work bench is still the best thing for heavy-duty work. Work benches made of melamine and synthetic wood may be cheap and easy to carry around different work areas, but they cannot match the toughness and durability of wood work benches.
