Choosing The Right Submersible Well Pump For The Job
A submersible well pump is a device that is placed deep down a water well to bring water to the surface for distribution and use. These submersible pumps are usually no bigger than 4 to 5 inches in diameter and are cylindrical in shape. Submersible pumps must be water tight in order to keep out any water than may short circuit it and cause the pump to break down. A submersible well pump is designed to push water to the surface rather than vacuuming it out like a pump placed above ground. Underground pumps tend to last 25 years before needing to be replaced and have fewer mechanical problems than an above ground pump. When the pressure switch is turned on, a signal is sent to the pump that starts the impellers. This motion pushes water up through the pump and into the water tank.
The cost of a submersible well pump will vary according to how deep the well is. These pumps are an investment that can last up to 25 years so they are well worth their price. The Little Giant Submersible Well Pump can bring up water from wells up to 500 feet deep and will run about $600. For wells that are not as deep, the Wayne T75S10-2 3/4 Horsepower 3-Wire Deep Well Submersible Pump will fit wells up to 100 feet deep and on average cost about $330. Most pumps will run between $300-$600 but you'll have to pay more if you want someone to install it for you. Those prices run closer to $1200 to purchase a pump from an installer.

And if we didn't have it we would still be on horse and buggies or riding a bicycle to and from work.
