Shallow And Deep Water Well Jet Pumps

Choosing the type of water well pump to use will depend on whether the well is a shallow or deep well. The most common type of shallow well pump is a jet pump. Jet pumps used for shallow wells are a one line pumps that are usually mounted above ground in the basement or crawl space of a home. Shallow well pumps have a depth limitation of 25 feet. They are relatively inexpensive and are easy to maintain. For a deep well, a two-line jet pump is typically used and is submersible.  This type of pump consists of two water pipes that connect the pump to the well. The depth limitation on a deep water well jet pump is approximately 150 feet.
Advantages of shallow well jet pumps include the ability to accommodate to wells of various outputs and require little maintenance. The biggest disadvantage to these pumps is that they are not capable of pumping from a well that is  more than 20-25 feet deep. Deep well jet pumps have the same advantages as the shallow well jet pumps, plus one more, they have the capability of pumping from a well under 150 feet in depth.

The two more popular manufacturers of the shallow well jet pumps are Flotec and Sta-Rite Industries. Both companies have been in the water pump manufacturing business for several years and have developed positive reputations.  Offering pumps made of cast iron or stainless steel, the prices range from just under $200 to about $300.

Water Ace Pump Company, Wayne Water Systems, Flint & Walling, as well as, Flotec and Sta-Rite Industries, are all popular manufacturers of deep well water jet pumps. All are comparable in price. Understandably so, the price of deep water well pumps are a little higher in price, but still are relatively inexpensive considering what they are used for. These pumps range from $300-$400.

Overall, water well jet pumps, both one line (shallow) and two lines (deep) usually last about ten years. A quick search on the Internet will result in a number of online retailers, as well as local hardware stores where the above water pumps can be purchased.

How to Make PCB at Home Using a Laser Printer (AKA the Toner Transfer Method)

By Dafne Vini
As an enthusiastic electronics hobby fan I was always fascinated by the fact that it is actually possible to make an almost professional looking Printed Circuit Board (PCB) at home. My eager for producing my PCB's at home rather than using the good old wire-wrap prototyping method gets even stronger as the years goes by and the availability of through hole packages (for modern devices) is getting lower and lower.
